Deciding on Your Color of Lipstick
Figure out your skin tone. Get into a natural light and hold a piece of white paper under your chin. If the shadow on the paper and reflection under your skin is blue, red or purple, it means your skin tone is cool. If it is beige, yellow, or dull, then your skin tone is warm.
·If using the veins on your wrist, blue or purple veins are normally a sign of a cool skin tone. However, green veins are a sign of a warm tone. Any tones in between the above descriptions may indicate a neutral tone.
·For warm skin tones: Beige, brown, golden, honey, bronze, mocha, taupe, spice, peach, coral, orange, brownish red, warm red, tawny, copper, and apricot.
·For cool skin tones: Pink, rose, fuchsia, violet, lavender, grape, cherry, wine, mauve, berry, plum, burgundy, lilac, and cranberry.
·Neutral skin tones usually go well with any shade or color.
Choose a color that suits your complexion. Your complexion tone helps you make a choice. Find out if your complexion is light, medium, or dark, then decide a color that goes suits it.
· Pinks, reds, and peachy colors do well with a light or fair complexion. Bright or bold tones usually work well too. However, yellow or very pale shades may wash out your complexion.
· Most colors suit medium, olive, or tan complexions. Nudes, pinks, reds, and orange shades can all be used
· Dark or deep tones with purples, mauves, corals, and orange shades look great on a darker complexion. A bright lipstick can be good, but avoid very light shades unless you're going for a specific look.
Hold the lipstick next to your skin, or put it on your wrist. A lipstick might feel the best idea, you however might never really know unless you can see it against your skin.
·Ask a sales representative. Sometimes stores only have swatches. You can hold these up to your skin as well.
Check the lipstick against your clothing. If you intend toward a specific color scheme, make sure you are wearing that color when testing the lipstick colors. Bright colors may clash, and all-neutral colors might make you look washed out.
CHOOSING THE BEST LIPSTICK
Determine the dryness of the lips. Different lipsticks suit different hydration needs. For very dry lips, avoid many shimmery, matte, and long-wear lipsticks, as they dry out your lips even faster.
-Look for moisturizing ingredients like oils.
Cream lipsticks for casual looks and maximum hydration. Suitable for everyday wear. They come in nude tones, and used to enhance neutral looks.
-The nude shade should be a little bit darker than your skin tone.
Satin or gloss lipsticks for long wear and a shimmery finish. Glossy lipsticks add shine to your lips, giving them volume. Unlike matte or cream lipsticks, they hide all the lines and wrinkles on your lips with light, giving your lips a full, round feel.
-Glossy lipsticks are not casual, may also dry out your lips. Do not use them if your lips are naturally dry.
Matte lipsticks for a velvet finish. Very popular today, and often long-lasting. Be careful using matte lipsticks if you have dry lips.
-Matte lipsticks accentuate every line and wrinkle on your lips, because they have no shine to gloss over details. If you use matte lipstick, hydrate your lips beforehand.
Frosted lipsticks for a retro look. They are shimmery lipsticks that are a few shades lighter than the wearer's skin tone. Some looks from the '90s like jelly shoes and crop tops have returned, and some celebrities are now wearing them.
EYELINERS
Eyeliners apply color around the eyes to accent and highlight appearance of the eyes. They emphasize the eyelids and/or to change the perceived shape of the eyes. The special ingredients apply color where it is needed in a precise and controlled way.
Pencil Eyeliner
Pencil eyeliner create an appearance that makes your eyes pop. Pencil eyeliner goes on easily and can provide the smoldering lines you crave.
A thinner line creates a more natural look. For venturing away from the standard black, get a color to complement your eyes. Plums and purples play up brown eyes, and for blue-eyed gals, try blinc’s Pencil Eyeliner in grey for a sultry yet subtle look.
Retractable Pencil Eyeliner
For something more subtle, a retractable pencil eyeliner in dark or light brown would be suitable. For a more striking look, get a black eyeliner.
Their functionality and precision are great, plus no need to sharpen. A smooth, glide-on retractable pencil eyeliner is ideal for its ease of application.
A thin line to both your top and bottom lash line, taking care not to tug at the skin on your upper eyelids.
Liquid Eyeliner (Felt Tip)
It is a versatile, long-lasting and easy to use. It’s sharp, bold lines create a flattering and dramatic flair. Liquid eyeliner can help hide a hangover in the morning and ideal for adding sultry vibes to your look. It’s precise, easy to use and creates instant drama. You don’t have to sharpen; it isn’t messy and creates a clean line.
If your right eye came out glam and fabulous, but the left eye doesn’t follow suit, don’t be afraid to remove it and start clean. Hold your eyelid taut, look down and reapply. If you mess up and apply too much winged eyeliner, or if it looks sloppy, take an angled eye shadow brush, dip it in makeup remover and clean up the edges of your wing.
Liquid Eyeliner (Brush Tip)
For thin, sharp lines, a liquid eyeliner with a brush tip is the best. It creates a smooth, matte finish that may be slightly easier to remove, although it still can be tough to erase if you do not have the right remover. It lasts long and thus a perfect tool for all-day glamour.
Brush tip liquid eyeliner requires time and precision to perfect. Make sure to allow the liner to dry fully to avoid smudges. It’s application is the smoothest.”
Gel/Cream Eyeliner
Gel eyeliner stays put, and is the ultimate accent to a smoky eye. Using a brush with a seductive gel eyeliner produces bold lines and enhances your appearance.
Gel liners are awesome, but a bit tricky if you’re not used to using a brush.
Eyeshadow as eyeliner
Well, this is actually an eyeliner hack! Using eyeshadow as an eyeliner is a quick and easy way to create smudged and soft lines that you can layer to build intensity. Simply pick your favourite eyeshadow shade from any palette, dip an angled brush in the pan, and draw a line across your lash line –a coloured eyeliner look without any coloured liner! The downside of shadow liners is that they are not as long-lasting as liquid or gel liners and can easily smudge or fade away.
