LOTIONS, CREAMS AND SERUMS

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CREAM & A LOTION

Sundry people love keeping their skin soft and hydrated. This can get complicated, especially with all the products available.

Choosing between a cream vs lotion can be hard. It is cardinal to know the difference between the two, including their benefits and ingredients.

What is a Lotion?

The biggest difference between lotion and cream is that lotions have a higher water content. A lotion is typically a mix of water and droplets of oil, is lighter weight than cream, and is non-greasy.

What is a Cream?

Though a cream is a blend of oil and water just like a lotion, it has a higher oil concentration (a 50-50 ratio of water and oil). Creams are thicker in consistency than lotions and provide a barrier that keeps skin ultra-hydrated. They are usually sold in a jar container or tub because of its thickness. Creams are greasier than most lotions because of the higher percentage of oil.

WHY USE A LOTION

In addition to sealing moisture into the skin to prevent drying, body care lotion softens rough elbows and heels, as well as other dry areas of the skin. Body lotion is one of the few inexpensive ways to pamper yourself. It is especially useful on the hands and feet, but can also be applied all over the body if the skin feels scaly, dehydrated and unattractive, and hand body lotion works especially well. Those who make time to use body lotion on a regular basis will find that it provides many benefits.

Re-hydrate dried skin.

Body lotion can be applied frequently to chapped or dried skin caused by wind, cold, or heat, causing it to be difficult to treat with regular cosmetics. Some people have sensitive skin. They can suffer from dry, irritated skin, even from indoor heat, regardless of the type of climate they live in. Using high-quality body lotion after a shower or bath can keep your skin hydrated and supple by sealing moisture deep within the skin. An after-bath application of your favorite scented body lotion may not be a bad idea.

Replenish extra dry or rough spots on the skin.

Regardless of your skin type, you might have rough areas around your elbows or knees that could benefit from applying lotion after bathing or before bedtime even if your normal skin type is oily or normal. It is possible to make rough skin feel smooth and silky by using a replenishing lotion regularly.

Smooth calluses.

It is common for people who spend a lot of time on their feet to develop calluses that are both painful and unsightly. Using a moist body lotion can make these areas supple and make it easier to remove dead skin. If you see discolored, swollen, or red streaks coming from your calluses, consult your doctor before removing them.

Feel and smell good.

It is relaxing to apply lotion to your feet, legs, or arms, and many specialty stores, department stores, and gift shops carry a wide selection of body lotions. Lotion feels wonderful on tired limbs or torsos. Take advantage of the variety of scents and textures available to find one that suits your personality and needs among the many lotion types.

Help yourself relax.

Whether your skin is in great shape and does not need to be moisturized with lotion, a body massage with scented lotion on the hands is good. A lotion that heats up during application to add sensory warmth to the parts of your body to which it is applied is great too.

The feel of gentle softness on your skin rotating in firm, steady massage movements remove stress, subdues pain, and enhances endorphins, making you feel great. It is such a wonderful gift to present to someone who is feeling tired out and worn down!

Soften the roughest parts of your body.

If your legs dry out after shaving, how about rough hands or toughened heels? No matter the age or lifestyle, a body lotion helps you relax and appreciate the simple comforts of life. Put some in the spare bathroom for guests. Place a bottle of your favorite scented lotion in the bedroom to feel smooth and smell sweet at bedtime. There are dozens of uses for body lotion when you think about all the ways it can be applied to make your skin moist, supple, and sweet smelling.

Make your skin glow.

Buy some kinds of lotion that will add glimmer and shimmer to your skin tone. Brightening qualities are sometimes embedded in lotion to show up as tiny sparkling flecks on the skin when applied. Some cosmetic lotions can brighten the skin to remove dull, dead flakes and rejuvenate underlying tissues.

CREAMS

Absorption

Because of their high water content, they are easily absorbed, thus cover large areas of skin. Their oil content also means they stay on your skin’s surface to help protect against moisture loss, which makes them better for treating dry skin, rashes, or skin lesions.

Consistency

Have a smooth texture with a thicker consistency, which tends to be runnier. They can be non-greasy to mildly greasy.

Appearance

Because of their oil-to-water ratio, tend to be thick enough to maintain their shape whether squeezed from a tube or scooped from a jar.

Other features

Daily moisturizing creams are typically sold in jars. Treatment creams, such as hydrocortisone for bug bites and rashes, usually come in tubes. The product’s container generally depends on the body surface area the product is intended for. Those made for small areas, will basically come in a tube rather than a jar.

SERUMS

What is a skin serum?

Many things improve with age; however, the skin does not. Wrinkles, brown spots, and general dullness often start to creep in as the years tick by. To reverse these problems, people are turning to a skin serum. Serums are light, easily absorbed oil- or water-based liquids spread on your skin. They usually come in small bottles with a dropper, and you only need a few drops to treat your whole face.

Serums are not moisturizers, like a lotion or cream. they are highly concentrated formulations designed to sink into the skin quickly, delivering an intensive dose of ingredients that address common skin complaints.

How to choose and use a skin serum?

Serums are applied to skin after cleansing but before moisturizing. Some serums have one main ingredient, though others, including those that target the signs of aging, are combination formulas. Serums with a combination of vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid are the best. Vitamin C in particular can prevent brown spots, reverse damage from ultraviolet rays, and stimulate the growth of new collagen.

Skin serum options to target wrinkles are those with antioxidants including tea polyphenols and resveratrol. Retinol, reduces inflammation and thus another good option, as is niacinamide.
